Whether for hot or cold water: the right insulation is crucial for the safe installation of hot & cold water pipework.

Hot water pipes should be well insulated to maintain the water at the correct temperature and reduce heat loss. As losing heat leads to energy losses, insulation helps to minimize energy consumption, resulting in energy savings.

Cold water pipes must also be protected from condensation and in some conditions from freezing. In turn, if cold water becomes too warm, this can also lead to bacterial growth such as legionella, posing a significant health risk.

Reduce health risks

Hot & cold water pipes are insulated to prevent unintentional temperature changes that might contribute to bacterial growth, such as Legionella, in tap water. In accordance with Directive EU 2020/2184, it is important to properly insulate hot water pipes to avoid water temperatures that are too low. Additionally, it is as important to protect cold water pipes from becoming too warm. For more details on local regulations please consult our local webpages.

Quick installation

With a length of 1.2m, PAROC® Hvac Sections make installation quick and help to reduce the number of joints and potential thermal bridges, when comparing to the 1.0m insulation solutions. PAROC® Hvac Sections also have a self-adhesive overlap and in combination with a suitable tape make installation easy.

Minimise temperature changes

Insulated hot & cold water pipes help to minimise heat changes and ensure that the water is transported to its end destination without significant warming up or cooling down.

PAROC® insulation products with low thermal conductivity* and high thermal resistance can contribute to limited heat gain and temperature changes, which in turn can lead to lower and more efficient energy use and reduced operating costs.

Prevent condensation

The factors that determine whether condensation forms on the pipe are the surface temperature of the pipe itself and the ambient air's temperature and relative humidity. To prevent condensation, the pipe needs to be insulated so that the surface temperature is higher than the dew point of the surrounding air. In order to minimize the risk of condensation and vapour permeability, PAROC® products have a vapour-resistant barrier in the form of a reinforced aluminium foil called AluCoat. Our pipe sections have a self-adhesive overlap and in combination with a suitable tape they enable easy and correct installation with precise joint sealings. No additional gluing is needed.

Avoid fire hazards

When tested to EN 13501-1, PAROC® products offer the highest fire class either Euroclass A1 or A2-s1,d0. Our stone wool insulation products are non-combustible. They do not burn or contribute to fire spread. They will not produce any smoke or very limited amount of smoke, nor do they produce flaming droplets. The softening temperature of stone wool products is *over 1000°C. The fire performance of stone wool does not deteriorate with high temperatures, nor with time. The surface temperature of faced products must not exceed 80°C.
