Insulation for Ventilation and Air Conditioning

PAROC® Insulation for ventilation and air conditioning

Reduce thermal loss and save energy

With proper insulation, you reduce unnecessary energy losses of cold or hot air in ventilation ducts and air conditioning systems. Effective insulation of all the equipment involved helps to limit and control heat loss, as well as to ensure the proper functionality of the mechanical installation.

When warm or cool air is transported through ventilation ducts, PAROC stone wool insulation solutions helps to maintain its temperature. In addition, insulation for cool air helps to prevent condensation by maintaining the surface temperature above dew point. Moreover, the right insulation can effectively reduce the airflow noise caused by ventilation and air conditioning systems, thus contributing to a comfortable indoor atmosphere.

Benefit from insulation for ventilation and air conditioning

Prevent condensation, icon

Prevent condensation

The factors that determine whether water vapour condensation forms on the duct are the surface temperature of the duct, the ambient air temperature, and relative humidity. To prevent condensation on the insulation surface, the duct needs to be insulated so that the surface temperature of the insulation is higher than the dew point of the surrounding air.

To minimize the risk of condensation and vapour permeability, PAROC® products have a water vapour-resistant barrier in the form of a reinforced aluminium foil called AluCoat. This in combination with PAROC® tape enables an easy and correct installation with precise joint seals. No additional gluing is needed.

Reduce thermal transfer

Ducts that transport warm and cold air require good thermal insulation. If the cool or warm air is heated or cooled by the surrounding air, the HVAC system will function less effectively, resulting in heat transfer.

PAROC® insulation products with low thermal conductivity* and high thermal resistance can contribute to limited heat loss or gain, and temperature changes, which in turn can lead to lower and more efficient energy use and reduced operating costs.

Reduce noise, icon

Reduce noise

Ventilation systems often transfer noise from one room to another as the air flows through them, which can disturb the occupants of the building. As a result, insulation that's applied to the outside and inside of ventilation systems may help to reduce this noise.

Low water absorption, icon

Low water absorption

Tests carried out in accordance with EN 1609 and EN 13472 indicate that PAROC® products, in the normal application and with correct finish, should not absorb or store moisture. The water absorption of PAROC® stone wool solutions is far below the required value of 1 kg/m2.

Avoid fire hazards, icon

Avoid fire hazards

When tested to EN 13501-1, PAROC® products offer the highest fire class either Euroclass A1 or A2-s1,d0. Our stone wool insulation products are non-combustible. They do not burn or contribute to fire spread. They will not produce any smoke or very limited amount of smoke, nor do they produce flaming droplets. The softening temperature of stone wool products is *over 1000°C. The fire performance of stone wool does not deteriorate with high temperatures, nor with time.

When is condensation insulation required?

Prevent condensation easily by using the correct insulation solution. Apply insulation of the correct thickness to keep the insulation surface temperature higher than the dew point. Also use an effective water vapour barrier to prevent moisture permeating the insulation.

In the table below you can see when condensation insulation is required.

PAROC Calculus

PAROC Calculus is a technical insulation calculation program for dimensioning thermal insulation for various applications in the HVAC and Process industries.

PAROC Calculus features:

• Easy-to-use interface; works on PCs, tablets, and cellphones

• Calculations of heat losses, surface temperatures, and temperature drop in pipes, ventilation ducts, process industry tanks, valves, and flanges

• Simple input of pipe diameters and duct dimensions (predefined)

• Correcting for thermal bridges of pipe and duct suspensions

• Print calculations as a PDF. Multiple simultaneous printouts in PDF are possible

• Saving projects and customizations (for registered users)

• Calculations based on the ISO 12241:2022 standard
