Vessel insulation

Optimal insulation performance for vessels

Depending on the size and operating temperature, process equipment design usually requires different insulation and cladding options. Choosing the right insulation can be crucial for optimal performance, longevity of the system, and maintaining an effective process temperature. Learn more about energy efficiency >

Our stone wool insulation solutions are specifically designed to prevent thermal bridges and minimize thermal loss. All our products for the insulation of vessels are available as WR (water-repellent) products. Since their average water absorption is 10 times lower than the toughest known standard (EN1607), they provide excellent protection to minimize the risk of CUI (corrosion under insulation). Learn more about CUI >

We recommend using PAROC® Pro Slabs (WR) or PAROC® Pro (Wired) Mats (WR), which are tailored to the specified geometry and dimensions for vessels, making them the ideal solution.

PAROC® Pro Wired Mats (WR) can be a good option for vessels with a smaller diameter. For larger tanks, PAROC® Pro Slabs (WR) can be used, with different densities depending on the required temperatures.

Benefits from Vessel Insulation

Complete insulation system for indoor and outdoor applications

With PAROC® Clad system, we offer a water-proof product line consisting of pipe sections, elbow solutions, lamella mats and accessories. The Clad facing is water resistant (according to PN-EN 1928:2002 method B), UV resistant (when installed with Paroc Clad Alu tape), resistant to salt water, high puncture resistance (tested according to EN 14477) and resistant against hail storms class HW3.

Due to its special facing, PAROC® Clad system eliminates the need for additional cladding or prefabrication resulting in savings on costs and installation time and enabling an easy installation even under high wind loads.

For high temperatures

Our products can provide long-lasting performance also at high temperatures and are resistant even at service temperatures of up to 700 °C, ensuring smooth operation.

Please consult the respective product data sheet for more information.

High flexibility and strength

Our PAROC® Pro Slabs (WR), Wired Mats (WR) and Mats (WR) have been specially developed to meet these challenging demands and offer optimum insulation properties even in the event of major temperature fluctuations due to stone wool’s high flexibility and mechanical strength.

Please consult the respective product data sheet for more information.

Secure fastening for more efficiency

The method of securing the insulation depends on whether welding to the surface of the vessel is allowed. If welding is permitted, using welded pins with self-locking washers is the simplest option. Alternatively, the insulation can be fastened with steel bands, providing flexibility in securing the insulation. These methods usually ensure that the insulation is securely fixed and can perform efficiently.

Double-layer for higher temperatures

For vessels with maximum operating temperatures above 1000 oC, we recommend the use of a double-layer insulation solution. For large diameter storage tank walls, and above 100 oC, rigid slabs with a nominal density of minimum 80kg/m3, such as PAROC® Pro Slab 640 WR or PAROC® Pro Slab 660 WR are recommended. When, due to geometrical reasons (if too small radii are involved), the application of slabs is not possible, PAROC wired mats with similar appropriate density need to be used instead. At the joints, the mesh of the wire mats should be sewn or stitched together with a recommended spacing of less than 100 mm and the insulation should be secured with steel bands.

Curves and outlets often call for flexible solutions

With their curves and outlets vessels are often best fitted with a flexible insulation material such as our Pro (Wired) Mats. PAROC® Pro Mats are ideal for appliances with irregular surfaces and help ensure that all gaps are sufficiently filled without creating air gaps. Please consult the respective product data sheet for more information.

When using flexible wired mats, it is usually necessary to install structures such as supporting rings to carry the weight of the cladding and prevent the insulation from sagging. This helps to increase the durability of the insulation.

Based on our certifications to ISO 14025, ISO 21930 and EN 15804, we have received the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) numbers NEPD-4100-3121-EN and NEPD-4101-3121-EN.

PAROC Calculus

PAROC Calculus is a technical insulation calculation program for dimensioning thermal insulation for various applications in the HVAC and Process industries.

PAROC Calculus features:

• Easy-to-use interface; works on PCs, tablets, and cellphones

• Calculations of heat losses, surface temperatures, and temperature drop in pipes, ventilation ducts, process industry tanks, valves, and flanges

• Simple input of pipe diameters and duct dimensions (predefined)

• Correcting for thermal bridges of pipe and duct suspensions

• Print calculations as a PDF. Multiple simultaneous printouts in PDF are possible

• Saving projects and customizations (for registered users)

• Calculations based on the ISO 12241:2022 standard
